AP News Reports: End Metal Theft is Supporting the City of Glendale to Combat Copper Wire Theft

As reported by AP News, End Metal Theft continues to make significant strides in protecting municipal infrastructure through its successful partnership with the City of Glendale, Arizona. The collaboration addresses the escalating crisis of copper wire theft that has plagued the city's parks and recreational facilities, causing substantial damages and compromising public safety.

The Crisis Impacting Glendale's Parks

Copper wire theft has reached critical levels in Glendale, particularly affecting the city's Parks and Recreation Department facilities. Glendale police are investigating multiple cases of property destruction at parks, schools, and construction sites, where police say criminals have cut lighting systems to steal copper wiring just this year. Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Mike Keane revealed how Paseo Park has been among the targets, with all its lights knocked out, rendering the popular softball and Little League hub unusable during peak evening hours.

The scope of damage extends beyond just Paseo Park. Parts of Glendale are being left in the dark after thieves are stealing copper wire from various locations across the city. A problem occurring throughout the past several months, local parks like Paseo Racquet Center were out of commission, causing frustration and safety concerns among the community.

The financial and operational impact has been severe. One City of Glendale worker shared with us how the park was stripped of its copper wiring from all the poles. Contractors had come back out to restring the wire in the lights and within 48 short hours, the wires were stolen again. This incident likely costing the city double what was expected with the first repair.

End Metal Theft's Proven Solution for Glendale

Recognizing the urgent need for effective anti-theft measures, the City of Glendale's Parks and Recreation Department turned to End Metal Theft for a comprehensive solution. End Metal Theft's Hand Hole Cover Locks are engineered to retrofit existing lamp poles, providing an added layer of security that helps prevent unauthorized access and costly wire theft.

Following the initial installation of End Metal Theft's Hand Hole Cover Locks, city officials have committed to deploying the system across Glendale to protect its infrastructure and enhance public safety. The initial pilot installation demonstrated immediate effectiveness in protecting the city's park lighting infrastructure.

"After our first installation, we quickly saw the value and effectiveness of End Metal Theft's locking covers," said a City of Glendale Official. "We're confident this approach will help us protect city assets and reduce the burden on our maintenance teams and public safety services."

Comprehensive Protection Strategy

The Hand Hole Cover Locks represent part of a broader security strategy being implemented by Glendale. The replacement process will be installing new copper wire to the existing fixtures, but with added security features. These will include locking mechanisms to the light poles, installation of In Ground J-Box (Christy Box) Locking Covers boulders eliminate access to electrical junction boxes and working closely with the local law enforcement halt theft efforts.

This multi-layered approach addresses the immediate security vulnerabilities while providing long-term protection for the city's infrastructure investments. The retrofit design allows Glendale to protect existing infrastructure without costly complete replacement, while the durable and weather-resistant construction ensures long-term reliability.

Commitment to Community Safety

"We're honored to support the City of Glendale and proud to see our solution making a real difference," said Jon James, President of End Metal Theft. "Our mission is to help communities proactively protect their infrastructure and save valuable public resources."

The partnership between End Metal Theft and the City of Glendale's Parks and Recreation Department demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive infrastructure protection. By implementing these security measures, Glendale is taking decisive action to ensure its parks remain safe, well-lit, and accessible to residents who depend on these vital community resources.

The success of this deployment positions Glendale as a model for other municipalities facing similar challenges with copper wire theft. As the city continues to expand the protective system across its facilities, residents can expect to see their parks return to full operational status with enhanced security measures that will deter future theft attempts.
