Help deter copper wire theft with the EMT Curved Hand Hole Lock. Its contoured steel cover, internal mounting bracket, and shielded puck lock conceal the mounting bolt and restrict access to light pole wiring.
Designed for hand hole openings with a curved seating surface. Available in rectangular and obround shapes.
Measure before ordering: Check your opening’s external and internal dimensions, match the shape, and confirm the cover’s curvature suits your pole. Compare your measurements with the product gallery images and see How to Measure below. Opening dimensions alone do not confirm a curved cover’s fit.

How the Curved Hand Hole Lock Works
The EMT Curved Hand Hole Lock replaces a standard access cover with a contoured locking steel cover that helps protect the wiring inside your light pole.
An internal bracket passes through the hand hole opening. Tightening the center bolt draws the bracket against the inside of the pole and holds the curved cover against the exterior seating surface. The puck lock then conceals the bolt head to restrict unauthorized removal.
Correct fit includes the curve. The opening’s dimensions, shape, internal clearance, and surrounding pole curvature all matter. A cover with matching width and height may still fit incorrectly if its curved profile does not match the pole.
How to Measure Your Hand Hole Opening and Pole
Before ordering, measure your hand hole opening’s external and internal dimensions, then measure the pole’s diameter or circumference so EMT can calculate the cover’s curve. Record opening measurements as width × height and include the units.
Step 1 — External Dimension (outside the opening)Measure the widest width and tallest height across the outside edges of the hand hole frame.

External Width

External Height
Step 2 — Internal Dimension (inside the opening)Measure the narrowest clear width and shortest clear height inside the frame. Account for welds, lips, or other obstructions that reduce the available space. The internal mounting bracket must pass through this opening during installation.

Internal Width

Internal Height
Step 3 — Choose Your Size and Match the ShapeFirst, use your opening’s outermost width and height to find the matching curved-cover SKU. The dimensions in the SKU represent the outside dimensions of the hand hole opening.
Next, match your opening’s shape—rectangular or obround—to the product.
Compare your external and internal measurements with the dimensions shown in the product gallery graphic for your selected size. Do not choose a cover based on the outside dimensions alone. Contact EMT if the internal dimensions or available clearance do not match.
Step 4 — Measure the Pole Diameter or CircumferenceEMT needs the pole’s outside diameter or circumference at the hand hole opening to calculate the cover’s curve. Provide either measurement:
- Outside diameter: Measure the straight-line distance across the outside of the pole, through its center.
- Circumference: Wrap a flexible tape measure around the outside of the pole at the hand hole opening. Keep the tape level and snug, following the pole’s outer contour, and record the full distance around.
For tapered poles: Measure at the height of the hand hole opening—not at the base or farther up the pole.
Clearly label your measurement as diameter or circumference and include the units. Send it to EMT with your opening measurements and photos before ordering.
Not a round pole? Contact EMT with photos. Diameter or circumference alone may not establish the correct curve for oval, fluted, or irregular pole shapes.
Rounded or Obround Openings
Width and height alone may not confirm a proper fit because corner shapes can vary. The opening’s shape and the pole’s curve both matter. If you are unsure, email photos and measurements to info@endmetaltheft.com before ordering.

Will this fit my light pole?
Fit depends on the opening’s shape, external dimensions, internal clearance, and the curvature of the seating surface. Follow the How to Measure instructions and compare your measurements with the product gallery images. Contact EMT before ordering if you need help confirming the curved profile.
What is the difference between curved and flat covers?
The difference is the cover’s profile against the pole. A curved cover is contoured for a curved seating surface. A flat cover is designed for a flat seating surface. Check the area immediately around the hand hole opening—not just the overall shape of the pole.
Should I send my original cover?
For custom orders or an uncertain curvature match, the original cover can help EMT compare the shape and profile. Contact us before shipping your cover and hardware so we can review your application and arrange the next steps.
Is the puck lock included?
Yes. The product includes an EMT puck lock with two keys, a curved steel cover plate, an internal mounting bracket, and a center mounting bolt.
Can multiple locks use the same key?
Keyed-alike options are available. Contact EMT when ordering to arrange matching locks for your property or fleet.
Can I order a custom size or color?
Yes. Send us your opening measurements, photos, quantity, and finish requirements. Curved covers also require a curvature match. We will review your application and confirm available options and lead time.
Does it prevent all theft?
No lock guarantees protection against every attack. This design conceals the mounting bolt and restricts access to help make unauthorized removal more difficult.
When will my order ship?
In-stock items typically ship within one business day. Contact EMT to confirm availability and the current lead time for custom orders.
What warranty is included?
The product carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects. Contact EMT for warranty terms or assistance.
For Hand Hole Openings With a Curved Seating Surface
The EMT Curved Hand Hole Lock helps protect wiring access points in outdoor lighting applications, including:
- Streetlights and roadway lighting
- Parking lot and commercial property lighting
- Parks, campuses, and sports facilities
- Industrial and warehouse exterior lighting
Check the surface around the opening—not just the overall pole shape. The cover’s curved profile must match the seating surface, and the internal bracket must fit and engage correctly.
If the opening has a flat seating surface, see our Flat Hand Hole Lock. If your existing cover bolts directly into the pole rather than using an internal bracket, contact EMT to confirm the appropriate mounting system.
Install using the supplied curved cover, internal bracket, center bolt, and puck lock. Follow the installation guide for correct assembly and bracket orientation.
What’s Included
- 1/8″ powder-coated curved steel locking cover
- Internal backing bracket
- Center mounting bolt
- EMT puck lock with two keys
Tools Required
Use a wrench or socket suitable for the mounting bolt, tools needed to remove the existing cover, and the supplied puck lock key.
Installation Steps
- Remove the existing cover. Remove the current hand hole cover and its mounting hardware.
- Attach the bracket. Insert the center bolt through the curved cover plate and start threading it into the internal bracket. The bracket threads onto the bolt from the small side. Follow the installation diagram; incorrect orientation can dislodge the threaded fitting.
- Position the assembly. With the bracket loosely attached, maneuver it through the opening and into the pole.
- Check the curved fit. Confirm the cover follows the pole’s seating surface and sits properly before tightening.
- Seat and tighten. Hold the cover in position and tighten until the bracket holds it securely. Do not overtighten or use the bolt to force an incorrect curve into place.
- Secure the puck lock. Fit the lock over the bolt head and secure it with the supplied key.
Confirm Fit Before Tightening
If the cover rocks, leaves gaps, or does not match the pole’s curved surface, stop and contact EMT before proceeding. For keyed-alike orders, confirm the intended key operates every lock before installation.
