Standard light pole covers stop nothing. A wrench and 60 seconds are all a thief needs to pull the cover, access the wiring compartment, and walk off with your copper.
The EMT Curved Hand Hole Lock replaces that weak point with a security cover built specifically for round and curved-body light poles. The contoured 1/8″ steel plate follows your pole’s radius, the internal bracket locks it from the inside, and the integrated puck lock buries the bolt completely — no exposed hardware, nothing to grip or cut.

Why Copper Thieves Target Light Poles
Light poles have a small, removable cover near the base that provides access to the internal wiring. Standard covers are designed for code compliance, not security — any thief with a wrench can remove one in under a minute. The EMT curved locking hand hole cover replaces that weak point with a contoured steel security cover that seats flush against round and curved pole bodies, locking down access to the copper wiring inside. A single theft incident can run $1,000–$2,000+ to repair.
How It Works
An internal backing bracket slides into the pole opening. A single grade 8, zinc-plated bolt draws it tight against the inside wall. The contoured cover plate seats flush against the curved pole’s exterior, and the integrated puck lock conceals the bolt head inside a shrouded steel housing — no exposed hardware, no pry points.

How to Measure Your Hand Hole
You need two measurements. Both take less than two minutes with a tape measure.
Measure the widest width and tallest height of the hand hole opening across the outside edge of the frame. This is your SKU match — find this number in the External Dimension column in the table above.

External Width

External Height
Measure the narrowest width and shortest height of the opening, measuring inside the frame. Include any welds, lips, or obstructions. The internal bracket must fit through this space during installation.

Curved poles vary by manufacturer. Even if your dimensions match, the curvature of your pole may differ. Sending your original cover is the most reliable way to confirm fit — especially for custom orders.

Important note on curved pole fit: Curvature varies between pole manufacturers — the same opening dimensions don’t always guarantee the same fit. For best results, send your existing cover with hardware to 1745 W Deer Valley Rd, Suite 110, Phoenix, AZ 85027 or email photos and measurements to info@endmetaltheft.com before ordering.
Don’t See Your Size?
Custom curved covers are fabricated to your exact dimensions — same 1/8″ powder-coated steel, same puck lock security, contoured to your pole’s curvature. Rectangle and obround shapes available. Lead time is typically 6–8 weeks. Sending your original cover is strongly recommended to ensure proper curvature match. Request a custom size →
What is a curved hand hole lock, and why do I need one?
A hand hole is the small access opening in a light pole used by electricians to connect wiring. A curved hand hole cover simply means the cover is curved to match the contour of the light pole. Standard covers are typically thin metal secured with a single exposed bolt — meaning anyone with a basic screw driver, wrench, or hammer can remove it and access the copper wire inside. A curved hand hole lock replaces that standard cover with a contoured steel security cover that seats flush against a round or curved pole body and conceals the bolt behind a puck lock, eliminating easy access for thieves.
What’s the difference between the curved and flat hand hole lock?
The key difference is the back profile of the cover plate. The flat hand hole lock is designed for poles with a flat surface at the hand hole opening. The curved hand hole lock is contoured to follow the radius of a round or curved pole body, allowing the cover plate to seat flush against the exterior without gaps. Using a flat cover on a curved pole will result in an improper fit and reduced security.
Will this curved hand hole lock fit my pole?
It depends on your pole’s curvature profile and hand hole dimensions. Check the size table above to find a stock size that matches your opening. Because curvature varies between pole manufacturers, we strongly recommend sending your original cover to 1745 W Deer Valley Rd, Suite 110, Phoenix, AZ 85027 before ordering a custom size to confirm fit. Call us at 480.745.3999 with any questions.
How difficult is installation?
Installation is straightforward and typically takes under 10 minutes with no special tools required. The internal bracket slides through the hand hole opening, the center bolt tightens it against the inside wall of the pole, and the puck lock drops over the bolt head to lock everything in place. Full instructions ship with every order.
Can I key multiple curved hand hole locks to the same key?
Yes — keyed alike options are available, allowing you to use a single key across multiple locks on the same property or across an entire fleet of poles. Simply contact EMT when ordering to request keyed alike configuration.
What if a thief tries to cut the lock?
The puck lock sits inside a shrouded steel body that blocks access to the shackle by bolt cutters. The contoured steel plate additionally resists pry attacks more effectively than a standard cover. While no lock offers absolute protection, the goal is to make your poles a harder target than unprotected alternatives nearby, so thieves move on.
How long will the curved hand hole lock last outdoors?
The 1/8″ steel construction with powder-coated finish effectively resists rust, corrosion, and UV exposure. Every unit carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects. For best long-term performance, annual inspection as part of routine pole maintenance is recommended.
What is the lead time?
In-stock sizes ship within 1 business day from our Phoenix, AZ facility. Custom sizes require approximately 6–8 weeks from order confirmation.
Compatible Applications
The Curved Hand Hole Lock is engineered to match the contour of curved and round-body light poles. If your pole has a round or curved exterior surface at the hand hole — not a flat panel — this is the correct product. Below are the most common pole types and environments where this lock is used.
Pole Types
- Round steel light poles — Tapered or straight round steel poles with a curved body at the hand hole opening
- Round aggregate / concrete poles — Spun concrete poles with curved exterior profiles (extra-long mounting bolt included to accommodate wall thickness)
- Round fiberglass poles — Compatible where hand hole opening dimensions match and pole wall allows bracket engagement
Lighting Applications
- Streetlights and roadway lighting on round-body poles
- Parking lot and area lighting on round tapered poles
- Sports field and athletic facility lighting standards
- Campus, university, and healthcare facility exterior lighting
- Retail center and commercial property perimeter lighting
- Industrial and warehouse yard lighting
Infrastructure & Municipal Applications
- DOT and traffic signal poles with round or curved bodies
- Highway and freeway lighting standards on round poles
- Transit authority poles and bus corridor lighting
- Public park and recreational area lighting
- Airport perimeter and apron lighting poles
Not the Right Fit?
If your pole has a flat surface at the hand hole opening — not a curved or round body — you need the Flat Hand Hole Lock Standard or Flat Hand Hole Lock Heavy Duty instead. If your curved pole application requires maximum resistance against aggressive tampering and repeat theft, the Curved Hand Hole Lock Heavy Duty steps up to a 1/4″ thick plate and reinforced bracket. Not sure which product fits your pole? Call us at 480.745.3999 or request a quote, and we’ll point you to the right solution.
The Curved Hand Hole Lock installs in minutes with tools you already have on the truck. No drilling, no welding, no specialty equipment required.
What’s Included
- Curved steel locking cover plate (1/8″ thick, powder-coated)
- Oversized internal backing bracket
- Extra-long grade-8, zinc-plated center bolt
- Integrated EMT puck lock with 2 keys
Tools Required
- Screwdriver, drill (optional), socket wrench, or adjustable wrench
- Puck lock key (included)
Installation Steps
- Remove the existing cover. Unscrew and remove your current hand hole cover and hardware.
- Attach the bracket to the cover plate. Insert the center bolt through the curved front cover plate and start threading it into the internal backing bracket. Note: the bracket threads onto the bolt from the small side — not the larger opening. Installing the bracket backward will pop the threaded PEM nut loose.
- Work the assembly into the opening. With the cover plate and bracket connected via the bolt, maneuver the bracket through the hand hole opening into the inside of the pole.
- Seat and tighten. Hold the curved cover plate flush against the pole’s exterior, then tighten the bolt until the bracket pulls tight against the pole’s inside wall, securing the cover. Do not overtighten — firm and flush is the target.
- Engage the puck lock. Drop the puck lock over the bolt head and secure it with the included key. The bolt head is now fully concealed.
Important Notes
- Confirm fit before installing. Verify the cover seats flush against the pole exterior before fully tightening. If there are gaps between the cover plate and the pole surface, stop and call us at 480.745.3999 before proceeding.
- Curved poles only. If your pole has a flat surface at the hand hole opening, order the Flat Hand Hole Lock instead.
- Concrete and aggregate poles. The extra-long bolt accommodates thicker pole walls — no modification or additional hardware needed.
- Keyed alike installs. Verify all locks share the same key code before deploying across your site.
